Thursday - Newport

Spent the day in Newport. Started by going on the Ocean Drive scenic route. Looked at Fort Adams, which is very historic as it was the site of some Revolutionary War battles. It was shut as it was "Closed for the Season". We then went to the Bellevue Rd Mansions. Unbelievable decadence from the 19th C and early 20th C. These were the cottages the likes of the Vanderbilts used for the summer. I DID feel quite comfy amongst it all...if only we were here in the summer when some are open for viewing! We were able to some of the Cliff walk which goes along the back of many of the houses + gave us much needed exercise. We then went to the Tennis Museum and Hall of Fame. It was the site of the 1st American open and was intersting and warm. By the early afternoon it was bitterly cold and snowing by the time we got home. We did consider walking around the docks and maybe going to a pub along the way but not only was it cold...there are no boats to look at so we bought a beer and headed back for a rest before dinner. an enjoyable day on the whole...but hopefully we can get away tomorrow and not be snowed in.
